drawing new sculptures

Windup, EKWC Residency, 2010.

The inspiration to this work was my love to all sort of wining toys. There is sarcasm and stupidity in those simple mechanical toys but also naivety, and humor. I  wanted to create a sculpture that perform just like a winding toys – by turning the key at the back of the sculpture.
I wanted the viewer to be part of the creation of the work  - if he/she will turn the key the work will act out.
The magic moment of performance will happen only if the viewer will take it on itself to become part of the action.
Although the sculpture  can ran  only a certain sequence  of motion the audience did felt the need to  “play” with the sculpture over and over again. Because  it was made out of ceramic the feeling that its might brake was enormous. Every time the thread pull the figure and then release it to a rocking motion it created a “catharsis” feeling. >
